For everyone who has been disturbing me to know how last week’s post would end, well here is how it ends. Just in case you haven’t seen the previous post just click here before you read this.
Soo where did I stop? Yes! it started raining heavily. Kunle was waiting for me. I couldn’t leave because I couldn’t afford to show up soaked. I needed to make the best impression today so I decided to wait for the rain to stop. I’ve never prayed so hard before. I started confessing all my sins. I told God that if the rain should stop I’ll never sin again in my life😂😂😂😂😂. Then I went back to my room to wait believing that God would answer my prayers and stop the rain soon.
It was as if God heard me because almost immediately I laid down on the bed, the rain stopped. I ran out of my room and out of the gate and just as I stepped out, it was Kunle at the gate, waiting with an umbrella. I couldn’t believe my eyes. As obvious as it was, I still asked what he was doing there. He said he had been waiting for me but he figured I was stuck because of the rain so he came to get me. I couldn’t believe it. I had not gotten to the party yet but my fantasies were already coming true!!! We walked back to the party together and I was sure to laugh loudly enough when any of my classmates passed just so they would see who I was going with 😂.
We stayed together the whole time at the party, talking and laughing. He even used his connections to get me pepper soup that was meant for only SS2 and 3 students. I was living the life. The highlight of my evening was when the music became slower and he stood up walked over to my side and said “May I have this dance?” At this point, I couldn’t even say anything because it was happening! My husband asked me to dance with him!
The dance started off awkward because I had no idea what to do or where to put my hands, but he slowly eased me into it. We found a rhythm finally and I didn’t say anything. I just wanted to enjoy the moment but then he spoke. “I had such an amazing time with you today.” and I replied “Me too”. Then silence again. I put my head in his shoulder as we moved together. Then we started to talk again. The conversation went something like this
Kunle: I know we just met but…
Me: Nope.. You just met me. I met you like a year ago.
Kunle: Hahaha so I was right, you’ve been stalking me.
Me: Oh well if you call it that *blushes*
Kunle: Well I don’t want you to stop. I really really like you. I wish I also met you like a year ago.
Me: *more blushes*
Kunle: I’m serious Tomi. I wasn’t going to ask you this yet but since you said you met me a year ago I might as well just ask you now.
Me: *heart pounding, blood pressure rising*
Kunle: Will you be my…
“Senior Tomi! Senior Tomi!! It’s time for prep. Why didn’t you come for hostel party?” Yes. I slept off😭😭😭. That was my school daughter waking me by the way. Kunle was so close to becoming my boyfriend… in my dreams.
As I was trying to boot, I heard my friends shouting my name down the hall obviously racing to my room to find out why I didn’t show up at the party and to give me the full gist about what went down. To be honest, I was in no mood to hear about it. I just lost the best opportunity I had with the love of my life. I wanted to just go somewhere and cry. But I couldn’t tell them that.
My two friends Toju and Busola burst into my room with “Tomi!!! Why didn’t you come?! You won’t believe what happened!” and they started downloading the gist to me. Toju was the talker. She wouldn’t stop talking.
“Guess who asked Busola to dance with him?” I was not interested. I should have been dancing with my own Prince Charming. I didn’t want to know about any other person. But I said “Who? ” to avoid hurting her feelings. And the answer came.
“Senior Kunle.”
My head did a 360. “Huh? Which senior Kunle?”
“Same one na. Fine senior Kunle.”
Don’t let me bore you with details but in two weeks Busola and Senior Kunle were dating. It was the end of the shortest love story I ever had. Just in case you’re wondering, Yes! I cried. But later in life I was grateful for those tears because that incident taught me a number of things I never could have learnt otherwise.
– When you want something, go for it. Stop waiting for things to happen. Go out and make them happen. I never had the courage to strike up at least a friendship with Kunle. Maybe if I made friends with him earlier, our story would have ended differently.
– When challenges come, you don’t just sit around and wait for them to stop. You’ll sleep off- like me. If you keep waiting for the rain to stop then all your dreams would remain dreams forever. Sometimes you have to go through the pain to experience the joy.
-If you wait until everything is perfect before doing anything, you’ll probably never do much of anything. Start with what you have. If you keep waiting till you’re fully ready, you’ll wait forever.
Sooo yes! That’s how the story ends. A happy story, a sad ending, a great lesson.
So what’s that thing you are waiting for? Get up and do it today!
Do you think I should have done something otherwise? How did you want the story to end? Did you learn a separate lesson from my story? Or have you waited to do something and then lost the opportunity? Share it with me in the comments section. I can’t wait to read them. Your comments mean so much to me. Thank you so much for reading.
Much love 😍
