My Village People Are Strong…But My God Is Stronger!

You would definitely know when your village people don’t want you to prosper but God is on your side. I learnt that today. The hard way!
So I just started working at this new place for my NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) and I absolutely love it. It has been really exciting. I’ve not really been doing much but finally today, I was supposed to go for my first pitch. I was kind of excited about it and for some reason I couldn’t quite place a finger on, very nervous too.

Normally I resume work by 9am. I leave home around 7am-7:30am and get to work like ten minutes to 9. But I woke up this morning and realized I had just 100 naira in my purse. I quickly calculated it. I’d use the 100 naira to get to the bus stop, withdraw at the ATM at the bus stop and then be on my way. I factored in like 10 minutes for withdrawing just to ensure I’m not late. 1+2=3-1=2 Quick maths! Or so I thought 😭

Dr Owoeye used to say in TMC 311 class “Man plans, God laughs” and I used to laugh at the saying. It seemed so funny until this morning when it happened to me and I realized how much I must have been laughed at.

I was about to leave home at 7 on the dot when I discovered the 100 naira was missing. Brethren, I searched my room like never before. I turned the whole place upside down, yet it was nowhere to be found. Nobody else was at home. I just had to find the money. I searched till like 7:15 and still didn’t see it. So I decided to just trek to the bus stop. iIt couldn’t be more than a 10 minutes walk and I started the trek. After about 5 minutes I started getting tired because I was walk-jogging to avoid wasting time. I finally got there after like 20 minutes of trekking. Yeah my estimate was wrong. It was far!

I finally reached the bus stop and went straight to the closest ATM. Lo and behold, it was not dispensing. I quickly started walking to the other ATMs of the other two banks, another 5 mins away. Immediately I got close and saw people, I was so happy.

“Thank you Jesus”. I said in my mind “Devil you have lost!”.

Maybe that’s what provoked the devil because as I put my card next thing I saw was “CARD NOT SMART”

Haaaaaaa… Aye mi temi bami!!! Ayu Ayu Ayu maaaaddd? Whose card is not smart? It’s like this ATM is not smart. I kept trying others. Same thing brethren! At this point guys, it was like quarter to 8. The security man advised me to go and try the other bank’s ATM and so I went to the second bank.

This is when I knew that Lagosians have a problem. There was such a crowd…only for me to get there and see that it was not dispensing. “Please what are you now waiting forrrr???!!!” A guy told me they were loading it so I decided to join them and wait. Let’s all be foolish together.

I waited for like another 20 minutes. All the while praying from the depth of my heart that my card would work when the ATM starts dispensing. It finally started and since I met a crowd I had to wait for my turn. It was my turn and like play like play, again “CARD NOT SMART”.

I tried again and again and again until one person shouted “Aunty you wan sleep there, if you no get money comot make we use am.” Lagosians are so rude 😭😭😭😭.

Hot tears were burning my eyes and I was so close to letting it out😧. That’s when the idea came. I walked up to one random guy that seemed nice on the queue and begged him to let me transfer to his account and he’ll withdraw it for me. He already saw my despair so he agreed and asked how much. When it was his turn, he withdrew the money. Mind you, he had not gotten alert. But he gave me the money anyways and said he trusts that I sent it. (wherever you are God bless you).

I quickly caught Egbeda bus and told the conductor “1000 lo wa ooo” before he’ll start shouting at me on the road. He said to bring it now so he’ll change it. It was at this point that I knew that I was being followed from the village. I dipped my hand into my bag and couldn’t find the money. I literally poured out my whole bag in the bus but couldn’t find it. I could not win against my village people. It was obvious. I quietly told them to stop the bus and I alighted. It was over! They won. What can I say?😞

It turned to start trekking back to my house when something just told me to check my bag again. Lo and behold I didn’t even have to put my hand inside the bag. Right there on top was the money. I didn’t think twice. I grabbed it, held it tightly in my hand before they’ll make it disappear again and called the next bike I saw. “Ikeja!!!” Dude saw how desperate I was and said 1300 but I didn’t mind. I just wanted to get to work.

I finally reached around to 10. Yes! I made it to work and even better I DID NOT MISS THE PITCH!!! My village people tried today but God conquered them. Anybody from your village hindering your destiny fulfillment will be conquered today😂😂😂!!!!!

With this few points of mine people, I hope I’ve been able to convince you that my village people are strong, but my God is stronger. Have a blessed day!

I can so relate with this!!

How was the bike experience? I’ve found that most of the riders like to ride near BRT buses or big trucks on the highway, I think it gives them an adrenaline rush making them forget that their passengers may actually be scared AF.

    Nice post BTW👌.

God pass all of them my sister!
